Wors used to be 'coloured'

Options
Hoping you can help

I've started to use the internet for researching my family tree again and using my laptop to work on.

Many moons again when I was using my compute,r and researching, there was an ever so helpful option. The words in my search would somehow be designated a colour and then when you looked at the page you could find the words so easily because they would be a certain colour. You could just scan the page looking for the colour rather than having to read everything.

It doesn't happen when I'm on the laptop. I'm using internet explorer and would be grateful for some help to speed my search up :)

Google used to do this by default when you viewed a cached version of a page. You can replicate the same functionality by using the Google Toolbar's "highlight" option.

e.g. in this real-world example I've highlighted "raquel welch fantastic voyage wetsuit" with Internet Explorer:

Bear in mind that you're not supposed to say that they're "coloured" any more. They're "words of colour". I would tax Raquel Welch.

I think this may be closer to what you mean?

You could use 'The Worlds Most Private Search Engine' as your search page- (also known as 'Ixquick)

    www.startpage.com

When its web page comes up on your browser screen, go to 'Settings' and just tick the box 'Automatic highlighting' - So that when results are clicked, the search terms on the page are highlighted.

You can also add it to your browsers list of search engines, (or even make it your homepage), on the initial 'startpage.com' web page.

Startpage also has the advantage of producing your search results using HTTPS so that others can't see what your search or results are - though if you click further, that will NOT be encrypted.

To use HTTPS whenever it IS possible (on ANY web page), use the add-on 'HTTPS-Everywhere' from the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation). (Just search EFF). It is on the right-hand side of the initial EFF webpage. You will have to allow permission to install it for security.

This add-on works in Mozilla Firefox / Pale Moon and probably other browsers like Chrome etc but don't know if it works in I.Explorer.

Startpage should be available in ANY browser.

You cannot loose a lose goose.
Get it? Now use it before you lose it.
    or - Try
using it - not losing it. ;)
