Ideas on how to decorate a boring room

Options
Hi,

I'm after a bit more advice please! Well OH and I decided to bring the wedding forward to this October instead of next October, we have booked the registrar and paid the deposit at the venue. Whilst at the venue today we saw the room in which the ceremony will take place. Luckily the colours in the room are very neutral, so it gives us a blank canvas, however this room is very plain, and boring with barely anything in it. I have visions of it just being the guests and the registrar there and the room looking awful! I had already planned to put ornamental birdcages and petals down the aisle, the chairs are having covers and bows on, but what could I have at the end of the aisle to make it look a little more special? Obviously there will be a table for the registrar with a flower arrangement on it, but has anyone else got any low cost ideas please? I did think of buying a cheap garden archway and decorating with fabric and fairy lights, but I don't want it to look tacky.

Please help!

Thanks in advance xx

A couple of bay trees with fairy lights?

    Or tall free standing candelabras?

Buy some cheap fabric (search for cheap fabrics website, there's a pretty good one by that name, or look and see if your local fabric store do a £1p/m section) and use that to drape artistically - can bring your wedding colours into the room that way.

  • How would I drape the fabric without damaging the walls of the room?

  • Hmm, see if there are things it can be tied to? (e.g. the ends of curtain rails, then drape BETWEEN windows, or pillars) It's hard to say without knowing what the room looks like. Also I don't think the archway with fairy lights and fabric sounds tacky at all!

We had balloons at our wedding - much cheaper than flowers! They were good for adding height (we made sure the actual balloons would be about 8ft in the air) without being in the way.

Remember though - the ceremony is quite short, and all eyes will just be on you two!

Is decorating the room allowed at the RO? There may be several weddings on the same day so you'd need people to put stuff up and dismantle it quickly before and after your ceremony.
  • We're getting married in the hotel, and it's allowed. Only things that aren't allowed are foil confetti and open flame candles.

Simple colour co-ordinated bunting allways looks nice which you can tie to curtain rails and table ends.
