Nail polish advice please

Don't normally wear it, but looking for nail polishes in classic red, jet black and dark purple (but not so dark it looks black).
As haven't bothered in years, don't feel up to doing multiple coats so need something fairly thick.
I don't want to go to a nail salon as I can't bear really long nails but I want to play dress up and explore my inner goth sometimes.
Got my makeup out last night, messed around and dragged clothes from back of wardrobe and husband came home and was speechless in a pleased way judging by his smirk.
My fingernails are healthy as I eat organic, drink water blah blah and use Clarins hand and nail cream.
If it goes on easily, doesn't need extra coats and is the classic colour, I'm not fussed whether it comes from Boots or Dior basically but I don't want to be buying cheap ones if they don't work.
Hope you will have loads of recommendations, thanks in advance xx

modelsownit.com Their varnishes are brilliant and even better, they have a half-price sale on for the next few days.

Barry M polishes are good as well and not pricey. Superdrug often has them on special offer.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
Ooh thanks Saturnalia, there's a Superdrug here and that website looks interesting.0

I saw these in Boots today and almost fell ... they look gorgeous and I think they're on 2 for £8 at the moment. However my nails are trashed after moving house so I've decided no more polish until they look better!
Essie also had some lovely colours in too, including a sort of dark-purpley red flake. I think too there were some lovely Max Factor matt polishes in a double tube, with the idea being that you make your own patterns. I think they were on three for two.0 -

Kiko products are amazing as well, designer-quality stuff at low prices, and they have a wide selection of colours. There are loads on special offer at the moment as well.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
OPI and China glaze are quality brands.
Chins glaze are currently 3 for 2 on sallys.

If you google image the name of the polish and you will likely find some images from a blogger review which will help you get a better idea on the colour and whether they thought it was hard wearing/ opaque in one coat etc.
This one looks quite different to the swatch on sallys!

Rimmel nail polishes get good reviews too.0

I cant stand the 'brushes' on rimmel '60 second'nail polishes, too wide for me, so bear that in mind.
I am wearing a dark purple at the moment, I got it from Asda.0 -
I don't like OPI or nails inc, I have to put 3 coats on!
I do like Rimmel and Barry M too - I particularly like BM's magnetic ones

Get yourself a quick drying top coat, Nails Inc one is amazing. Touch dry in about a minute. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

Thanks for all the replies ! I have questions..
Does the topcoat protect the colour and does it work ?
Magnetic nail polish as in magnetic-I-can-pick-pins up ? Sounds fun.
ASDA does makeup in every store ? Wow so been walking round with my eyes shut instore if so.
Are there any chemicals in nail polish which I should be avoiding ?0
