Trying desperatly to curb our food spends. We roughly spend about £300 a month on food and would love to reduce this. I do have a bread maker but haven't used it in ages! Any cheap and nice ideas? Thanks
I think you are doing really well to feed 7 on £300 a month. I live on my own with visiting sons (4) and girlfriends occasionally and I've got it down to about £10 per week.

We used to be a family of 6 and I liked one pot cooking or one pot plus potatoes. As a big family I always found my pressure cooker and large le creuset casserole dishes and now my slow cooker excellent for this. It's amazing the amount of nutrition you can pack into one pot and so simple. The name of the game is 'EXPERIMENT' - try it and see.

Yes, I'll second that. £300 a month is only £10 per day, remember, or about £1.42 per person per day, eek! That's pretty good going if you've got five growing kids and need to meet all their nutritional needs. Well done you!

i can vouch for this being a tasty recipe, i made it last week! i wasnt particularly keen on the pie, found the mash sunk in and mushed in, maybe it was too runny? so would just make half and half chili and bolognese next time :)

As Nordictat says, there have been several discussions on the subject of cheap meals. This thread has a summary of the best links which Pink-winged kindly pulled together a few months ago.

I have no idea how many (if any) of these recipes are suitable for a weaning baby, but several people on here have kids of this age so I'm sure someone will be able to give you some ideas. :)
Back after a very long break!
  • Luckily Pink Winged has gathered them altogether here ;)I'm sure you will find some useful stuff amongst that lot Bezybee.

  • Always buy lean steak mince. I know it is usually the most expensive but there is no waste and the taste is soooo much better than the cheap stuff!!! Maybe that is why you don't like mince!
