Salary pay date query

Good Afternoon,

I am looking for some advice please?

If your pay date is the 28th of each month does this mean the funds should enter your bank account at the turn of midnight or is it acceptable if the accountant 'presses the button' as some point during the day on the 28th of the month?

This has now happened to me twice and we are curious to know if this is right. We have managed to argue it to the head accountant as unacceptable (we work hard, do more than expected, don't expect what we don't deserve) so she has agreed being able to pay any DD's on the 28th without any issue as a basic 'right'.

I have managed to move most DD's further back but unfortunately 3 companies were unable to push them any further than the 28th which this month resulted in the DD's being taken before my pay was in.

Thank you for taking the time to read my query,

Louise

I'm not sure about other banks but with HSBC they will pay out direct debits, under the direct debit agreement, and as long as the money in has arrived before 3pm they won't charge me either. Maybe your bank is the same? If you have companies that won't change the direct debit date perhaps consider asking them to start from the 1st of the month and paying the extra few days by manual payment rather than direct debit? I'm sure if you cancelled the DD most companies would then be able to change to the 1st once you paid what was owed starting from the month 5 weeks after the 28th, e.g starting in March if the 28th January DD is cancelled.

I believe if your pay day is stated as the 28th it can be any time on the 28th, I've always worked for large firms that have paid at around 3-6am, by automated system that works through the employees 'pressing the button' so to speak.
