In my experience, it is extremely difficult to get JCP to pay for anything without a fight. No conspiracy theories, just based on my own personal experience and that of my colleagues.

same in my experience, jobcenter say there is no help and the WP offered to LEND me one weeks travel costs even tho they know I won't get paid for a month, so I would still be short of 3 weeks travel costs to work  yet they will be getting thousands for "helping" me back into work.

Sorry but I have already explained to you the WP provider is paid in their fee to assit their own customers. They just are not passing this money on. JCP cannot issue any funds for WP customers.
Yes WP will be getting thousands so complain to then plase do not blame JCP staff we are opposed to they way WP is run to make money.

Flexible support fund has drastically changed over the years people were moaning left right and centre about tax payers money being spent inappropriately. It has to remove a barrier into work, an interview is no guarantee of work. Safety boots and other safety equipment is the employers responsibility. Courses for training cannot be paid out of FSF this comes from the district LVP fund or via skills conditionality.

Thanks for the replies folks. I guess he assumed it was the same as before. We can get him boots, its not a problem - we just felt that if the jobcentre have funds for this type of thing, why not ask.

In ALL cases of flexible support claims the advisor should investigate the claimants financial circumstances and if the claimant has funds to cover the request ( as in your case) the claims will be turned down every time.FSF can ONLY be considered if the claimant does not have their own funds to cover whats required, be it travelling costs, clothing etc etc.

and I told you that at my jobcentre they told me there is no help for anyone, not just those on the WP, if the job or interview is within 1.5 hours of home, so in effect there is no help from them either, as most people will be looking/taking jobs with that distance of home.
  • i find it hard to believe that a company will not let you borrow a spare set of work boots. If its something you are required to have for your job then looks like you will need to pay for them. I would chance it by going as in your interview suit, maybe then the employer will offer to lend you a pair.

Talking non work programme. YES there is help.
IF you come in and prove you need some smart clothes for an interview (not legally required hard hats or boots which you MUST be supplied with legally by the potential employer) then of course you can get help.

It is taxpayers money so you would, I don't think unreasonably, need to prove you need the clothes (or whatever) but of course the DWP will pay. Also it's not designed to kit you out with a new wardrobe so you will only get the basics.

To cut to the quick genuine help is there for a genuine prospect of work - it's really all down to maths ; £72 * 2 - £52 (or whatever you are asking for) = MATHS; if it is going to pay to give you less money for clothes or whatever to get you into a job then pay you jobseekers allowance it is a no brainer...

so I'm not telling the truth when I say the jobcenter and the WP both told me they will not pay my first month travel costs? the WP offer to lend me one weeks fare, even tho I do not get paid for a month, even if they had offered to lend me a months fare, but no, one week is all they will lend me.

what should happen and what actually happens tend to not be quite the same thing in real life.

This is the problem. Asking for free money when you don't need it. there are other people who can't borrow boots and its because of the likes of you who take when they didn't need to that the fund was cut.

    No.

Honestly, all these alleged cuts/caps/reforms have ended up costing taxpayers millions of extra money.

They weren't done to cut back on the frivolous, they were done to appease the right wing nutters who generally read the DM, and thnk it's truthful. :rotfl:

Unhappily, nothing is working, the bill is rising, and it's all coming back to bite them on the bum.

    Lin
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

Nobody said you went telling the truth but there is a list to go through..
WP? ( if yes no award)
Previous award action outstanding? ( if people have used the award before and not provided receits or paid back incorrectly spent monies no award)
Already started work? ( No award)
What is the item for? (I could go on for ages at to what is appropriate)
Other funding available? ( exhaust all other avenues first)
For travel? (again look at cheapest costs and 90 mins if for an interview)

and so on we go. If an adviser issues funds incorrectly they have disaplinary action.
