Trouble certifying a copied document (Tesco)

Hi,
So I'm having some trouble getting my Driving License certified. I took a colour photocopy along to my bank last week and they said all they could do was put their branch stamp on it, though the letter from Tesco said they had to write 'I confirm that this...' and authenticate their certification with their branch stamp. Does this sound familiar?
I now went to my local Post Office who said they would do it but for a £7.15 fee....which I thought was a bit much given all they have to do is write the 'I confirm that this...'.
Has anyone had any good experience with trying to get a copy certified? Seems a complete pain for what it is .
Does Tesco Bank have any presence in any of their stores?...Could I take it there potentially?
Thanks!

Why did you take a colour copy and not the original for them to copy? No one is going to certify a copy unless they are certain it is real.
If your bank won't do it then you have to stump up the cash for the post office or a solicitor to do it (if you have your own solicitor/accountant, you might find they will do it for free).0 -
I mean obviously I had the original as well. But thought they wouldn't want to have to make their own copy...
They said they *had* to make their own copy, which was a terrible black and white one0 -

Which they would have certified as being a true copy and Tesco would probably have been happy with.0 -
The post office ask you to take a copy and the original (they don't make copies themselves). They will write whatever you need on each copy and for the fee they will do up to three documents.
I used them last week to certify documents for my tesco loan and got the money put in my account yesterday!0 -

I don't understand, perhaps I haven't been clear enough. I gave them my ID, they made a copy and put their branch stamp on it. Tesco's said that wasn't enough. The bank said all they could do was put their branch stamp on it. Which wasn't enough as they didn't write the "I certify that..."0 -

Ok, fair enough. I'll probably go back there and pay up then.0 -

I've never had problems with getting various banks to certify identification and they've all happily writen the "I certify ..." message on it.
Perhaps before you spend the money at the post office give your bank another try and you might get a different person who will do what you need.0 -

Fair enough, I was a bit surprised at the time but I did point out a couple of times that I was hoping she would write more but she just kept repeating the same line "That's all we can do" as if I hadn't heard her.0
