Hi,
I am blown away by this group and the way in which you all help each other. I am a brand-new comper driven primarily by need (sadless made jobless in my late fifties) rather than desire but I have always enjoyed the challenge of crosswords etc. I accept that I may win nothing but, as so many of you say, you never know.....!
My question is about what happens when you win. I have a separate e-mail account for comping that I monitor daily including Spam. I also have a cheap mobile phone that I leave switched on - but is it usual for organisations to phone you when you win...and what happens if you don't reply immediately to the call?
Grateful for any help please - and please be gentle with me if thsi has been asked before.

Welcome to the wonderful world of MSE Compers
.
Great idea for a separate email addy and phone. Personally I have never received a winning telephone call (my day will come) but I have had WEMs (Winning Emails) and surprise wins too - in fact my first win was an Xbox that just turned up with no prior notification.
Good luck and hope you have lots of lovely wins x2024 £72, 2023 £2230, 2022 £300, 2021 £1800, 2015 £3790, 2014 £44600 -
Hello and welcome Defoe
When you get a win you may get a phone call (WTC), they sometimes leave a message or call again, but sometimes move on to the next person depending on the prize (may be time sensitive eg tickets etc)
You may get an e-mail (WEM) or a winning letter though the post.
Sometimes you get no notification at all and a prize will just arrive and this can be with or without a compliments slip so you have no idea which comp it was from.
Makes life very excitingThe best way to track your entries on this site is to use the red cross and green tick as they are a fantastic tool.
Good Luck and let us know when you get a win, BHtotal wins 2013 £5500 2014 £7500 2015 £23,900 2016 £10,650 2017 £13,040 2018 £10,620 2019 £10,115 2020 £3970.00

Back Comping in 2024!0 -
I've had two winning phone calls; one from The Guardian and one from The Daily Telegraph, so rather large companies for decent sized prizes.
I answered them both first time, so not sure what happens if you don't answer. I'm assuming most would call back / you could contact them.
Welcome to the forums & good luck with your comping0 -
I've had a few wtcs - I've answered most first time but for my holiday she rang back a few timesproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

Depends on the organisation.0 -
This thread lists how winners have been contacted from loads of different companies, by e-mail or wins "just turn up" are the two most common ways

I have been wondering about this too so pleased you asked and people answered. Phone calls worry me as I an unable to answer my phone at all 9-5 on weekdays as at work - hope they would email or text too. You have to be so careful with emails because of all the phishing type ones that I am a bit scared of accidentally responding to a dodgy one thinking I have a prize."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Do you get a lot of "phishing type" emails ?
If you're ever unsure just post it on here and the regs will tell you if it's a scam.0 -
Thanks to those who have replied. You were kind enough not to point out that correct spelling is also important!
Thanks to comments here, I have been using the tick boxes and the idea of separate e-mail and phone was also taken from this forum.

When I won with ITV they were trying to phone me every half an hour (for 4 hours, my mobile phone was on silent while I was at work). The number was not withheld so I called them back. Went through a security check with the lovely lady and then was notified of my win.
So if it's a big win, they will try to get hold of you.
I've had WEM for theatre tickets, to collect at box office, on a few occasions tickets were not available, so my advice is to take a copy of an email of your win.
Good luck for 2014
