Gentle hair dye

Does such a product exist?

I'm looking for something that I can shampoo in, that doesn't drip, and that can be shampooed over the next time I need some colour i.e. no messing about doing 'roots only' which is a pain in the proverbial.

I had a quick look in Superdrug today and all the hairdyes showed 'first application' and then the 'roots only' for second and subsequent applications. I definately don't want that.

I was going to suggest Wella Shaders but I hear they have been discontinued.

Judi, these look like the old Harmony shampoos I used to use - wash in and wash out. I'd go through 7 packs a week in that case!

What I'm looking for is something a bit more permanent (lasting 6 weeks at least) that can be redone by shampooing the full head, not just doing a roots job. Maybe it doesn't exist....

you can get semi permanents that last for 22 washes

I think the dark ones you have to be careful that thye are fully washed out so you dont get any darker bits by overlapping but the other ones will be ok

I have naturally black hair and have used the dark brown ones and they were fine. i only have a few white strands so just wanted them to blend in rather than be black, I find black dyes too dark and dark brown too light for my hair

be careful using semis. I put one on my hair in November thinking it would wash out but it hasn't. I'm now stuck to having to do the roots every month because the grey is so bad.

I don't understand, my hair wasn't processed so shouldn't have been porous to that extent.

Still, that's another job for hubby. It was his whining that I looked ancient that got me to colour it in the first place.:D

    I'm still annoyed though.

What you need is a toner. Some Savers branches do some, or a wash in wash out colour which last roughly a month

I agree with this warning; I've used a couple of different brands of semi permanent dye on my hair and they've never washed out as they were supposed to. I've had to dye it again recently because I don't like seeing the two different colours.
Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.... :/
