Utility company 'refund'

Hi
Hope everyone is doing okay.
I went BR in December 13 and have just received a letter from my water company stating that they've been told I'm BR and have attached a cheque for an 'overpayment'.
Can anyone explain how this works/why I've received this? My payments to them were up to date when I went BR.
Also, will the OR want the money anyway?
Thanks

Hi,
Presume you have a rates based bill rather then being on a water meter?
If so, your water bill was payable in full on 1st April, so whenever you go BR after 1st April, the remainder of your years water bill falls in to your BR.
It's your money to keep, as you were not liable to pay it in the first place due to your BR.

Do you get the full year back? We're going bankrupt next month, will we be due a refund? I haven't put water as a debt, as up to date, should I? Thanks0
