Doorstep Collection Threat

Does anyone know if the following is in breach of any code of practice. It was sent by TNC.

Obviously until they establish a debt they cannot send bailiffs, I'd be surprised if anyone is allowed to visit to discuss a claim prior to a judgement.

This is in Scotland. TNC are English

> Despite my recent correspondance to you the above debt has not been paid nor have you been in touch with our company to discuss settlement arrangements.
>
> Failure to make payment or to contact us to arrange a repayment plan will now result in TNC seeking approval from our Client for passing your account to a Doorstep Collection Agent.
>
> This will be for the purpose of that agent visiting your premises and trying to resolve this matter there with you directly.
>
> To avoid the possibility of the above or litigation proceedings, which we have already advised you we will be recommending,
> please make payment using a card by visit debtors.tncdubbo.com to make payment.

  • I could come round to your house and demand money from you. If I did, I would expect the same response that I hope you'd give to such a Doorstep Collection Agent (in the unlikely event it happened), i.e. tell them to f--- off.

Was the debt incurred in Scotland or England/Wales (presumably in respect of a private parking charge)?
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

Just what I was going to type!

Interestingly, some doorstep collection agents turned up to speak to one of my neighbours last week when he was out - 2 huge blokes in chalkstripe suits and black overcoats in a van signwritten with "xxx debt and asset recovery", then proceeded to knock at every single house in the Cul-de-Sac enquiring about the neighbour and asking for descriptions of him/his family/their vehicles. Turns out it was all over a debt of about £80 which had been overlooked when they moved house!

Would love to know if they fall foul of the DPA when they make the purpose of the visit so obvious, albeit without explicitly telling a third party?
  • If a doorstep collection agent every come round tell them do they want the doorstep cleaning before they take it away

Search the forum for the keyword 'doorstep' to see loads of other threads laughing at this threatogram about collecting your doorstep!
    (BTW they never arrive!).

You can certainly report TNC to the Credit Services Association if they are still a member. The CSA has an October 2013 'Code of Practice' for its members, where I am sure you can find breaches.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
