Mortgage promise...but I've gone overdrawn :(

Hi folks, I'm having a slight panic attack here...

My partner and I, by some minor miracle, got a Halifax mortgage promise a couple of weeks ago and have been looking at properties. I was terrible in the past for late payments/defaults but that's all about 5/6 years ago. Partner's credit is great.

I have just checked my bank balance the day before payday and I've had two direct debits come out of my account today which I wasn't expecting (both due on the 1st; I totally see now that it makes sense that they would be taken early when the 1st is a Saturday). In total they've taken me about £32 overdrawn ( I have no overdraft facility).

I'm going to get my partner to transfer cash to me this evening to get me back in the black 'til my pay goes in tomorrow, but I'm panicking that this is going to blow the whole mortgage promise out of the water.

Our LTV is 50% and we'll only be buying something up to about £120k. Could this help them overlook this slip-up?? Or I'm I renting for another 6 years? :(

  • Do you usually go overdrawn or is this a one-off? I can't see Underwriters declining your mortgage application on the basis of going overdrawn by £30 following many months of good conduct if this is just a blip. Try not to worry.

First thing to do is change your ddebs to 5 days after your wages go in......as long as the money from your partner is in your account and the overdraft cleared by midnight you should be fine.

  • I haven't gone overdrawn for a few years now, I've been so careful for ages.

I'm now back in black (thank you darling!) and will have my wages in by breakfast time so fingers crossed it won't be an issue.

Thanks for your replies; I know no-one can give a definite answer on these sort of questions but you've calmed me down a lot! :)

With your LTV such small isolated mishap should not matter.
  • Thanks Mokka :)
