Santander cashpoint's

Hello everyone, been an avid reader of this forum now i have a question to post regarding cashpoint charges and santander.

This week i have finally gone ahead with a banking switch, i am leaving royal bank of scotland and joining santander. My new santander 123 account has been approved today i got my account details and visa debit card, i did not bother asking for their credit card (don't need it) and have yet to see if they give me an overdraft currently have £900 o/d with rbs but it is never used and again not needed, so i will not be too bothered if santander don't give me an overdraft.

anyway reading the leaflets i got today this part under FEES caught my eye and i quote
we won't charge you when you use your debit card to withdraw cash at any santander cash machine in the uk or spain

so my question is this :- if i use my santander card for example in tesco's cashpoint or asda's or barclays will i be charged?

    No, you won't.
  • thank you for a speedy response.
  • Cash withdrawals from any of the UK high-street banks are free.

But there are some privately owned machines which do charge between £ 1.00 or 2.00 for each withdrawal. But these machines have to advise you, before you enter your card, that there is a charge involved.

As a side note I also find that Santander's ATMs are much more capable than other banks' ATMs. For example you can initiate a Faster Payment at a Santander ATM, transfer money between accounts, order stationery. There's loads of other functions available which have always surprised me.

Interesting. I don't think I've ever actually used my Santander card at a Santander ATM before.
  • have just switched from them but never had any charges for using any machines. but then i avoid the ones that tell you. they are still part of the link system (if its even still called that) so you dont get charged at all.

True, but my local branch's ATM has never got any bl**dy deposit envelopes left in it on the rare occasion I have a cheque to deposit

They're also useful if you ask for a mini statement it actually prints where the money was spent/credited from as you can make sense of it all. HSBC also do this too, but every other bank prints a load of codes and the amounts.
