Income brackets: PERCEPTIONS of low and high?
Comments
-
London/Hertfordshire borders here.
Low < 50K
Middle 50 - 150K
High +150K
That's the perception.
But then of course household composition is key.Don't blame me, I voted Remain.0 -

Comfortable as a synonym for ' rich'? Or just a point at which you could 'relax' and not worry? Would you still personally perceive a need to feel 'uncomfortable' at annual income at £240k? For example? In that you'd worry? Or feel lack of choice?
Again, just to make clear, no critism, just trying to explore the idea further, to get a deeper appreciation of what's lead to this perception.
When I take the net figures there's not much left, especially if you are a family with kids.
If you earn 80k, Take home is less than 4500 per month.
If you earn 250k, Take home is around 11k per month.
Between 1mil - 5mil, I wouldn't class them as super rich, just comfortable.
I think all boil downs to lifestyle,
I am content with say around 80k because my lifestyle don't cost me that much. but once you are out there earning your millions, lifestyle changes accordingly, I believe.0 -
Out of 47 Intermediate Zones in Aberdeen eight have below £22,000
median household income. West End North has the highest median
income of £51,000, which is more than double the median income of
Torry East, which has the lowest income

Although I have friends in Aberdeen I have never been there:o
Can someone give me a comparison in size or nature to a southern England city?0 -

Thank you.. I think the impact money has on lifestyle depends on person, chucknorris for example demonstrated that he enjoys low cost activities and doesn't spend everything he earns. I've ben very lucky in the past to have been involved in some very 'expensive' pursuits. but not had to pay for them, indeed, often been paid for them in some way.
I think the glass half full way to look at 'less than £4500 a month' is that its £1 k a week ish.
Over a hundred quid a day (or fifty quid each for a couple) " seem 'uncomfortable' to me personally. even if it doesn't suggest a choice free lifestyle
Thank you for expanding on your thoughts..

About a year ago I was having a serious rethink about my "career" such as it is. I looked at retraining as a veterinary nurse, but was genuinely shocked to read that the median salary after 3 years of study was ~£18k. I know things are cheaper outside London, but I genuinely couldn't imagine how a single person could live on that (and run a car, which would presumably be necessary for any vaguely rural job).
It made me think that you'd need another household income, and having lived on my own and been financially independent for a while, I found that alarming.
I guess this is a London way of looking at it, and presumably there are many people surviving on that sort of salary. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -

Well the population is about 220K, compared to say Reading with 160K
In nature, it appears the population are very opinionated and like to brag extensively when they are proven correct, but tend to disappear for a few days when proven incorrect.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

There are some routes for career progression, but few, and its a very popular course, and very subscribed, or certainly used to be. At both places I studied there was a vet nursing course.
One of the reasons the median salary might be low is because there are quite a few part time options I believe. But its not a highly paid job, so i can quite believe thats including a pro rata adjustment.
However, there are also lots of antisocial ones for people balancing the work with family life. (Especially single parents) evening surgeries for example, weekend cover, night cover...
Fwiw, most (but obviously not all, rural surgeries are in towns, not the middle of the country side.......and somethings defineitly remain cheaper in London.
Edit(horse ones are often different though)0 -

£80k or £4,500 a month after tax should be very plentiful for a single income and still perfectly comfortable for a couple. Lifestyle is a choice - you don't have to buy a new car every couple of years or join the golf club. Anyone earning over £1M is a lot more than just 'comfortable'!!0 -

Many people do survive at this salary level. They have to.0
