    The first time it shows up in my records is 2001/02

    Introduced as part of the "new" personal pensions in 1987, and always has been £3,600 gross, the net varies with the basic rate of tax.

    Hmm, George Osborne? Hmrc don't make the rules they just enforce them (merrily giving some very bendy interpretations to statute at the same time, but nonetheless).
