Online advertisement and tax

in Cutting tax
I tried really hard to find where to post this and I am still not sure if this is the right place. If not, apologies and do let me know where to take this question to!
I am considering creating a Wordpress blog on which I may display advertisement (AdSense, etc.). This is not something I have done before and am not sure how this is going to work out or what revenue might be generated.
My concern is this: assuming I make some money, this will be an income over and beyond my job salary. How do I pay tax on this new income? Do I need to let HMRC know? This may be a stupid question but I simply do not know how this works and I wish to be informed before I take the plunge.
Thank you.

You fill out a self assessment.
Regarding the amount you might generate, it depends on the value that you provide. You need hundreds of thousands of people visiting your blog to make a few hundred pounds. Google don't pay out until you reach at least £60 in earnings.0 -
If you are able to sell directly to advertisers rather than using adsense then you can make more. but it takes time, you have to develop a site people engage with. Its perfectly possible to earn a few hundred per month once you have a successful site. Realistically expect to take at least a year maybe more before you see any returns.0
