.......... Have to say though, that I'm surprised they operate like this for you because all my MBNA paperwork, and the FAQ on their website, says that no matter how much extra you pay after your statement is produced, they'll still take whatever the statement minimum payment DD states. ..............
    Agreed, from my MBNA statement
Please remember: your regular Direct Debit payment will always be taken, regardless of any additional payments you choose to make.

I think all card providers do this. Just pay exactly what you would like to pay, if this is over the minimum then they wont take any DD out. Check with MBNA and they'll explain it to you.

Different providers (and possibly the same provider judging from other comments on this thread) have different policies on this so you need to read your statement to see how your particular card works. Some of my cards work the way you expect while others work in the way that your MBNA card does.

Make your overpayment after they take the minimum and before your next statement date.

I was doing this and it was going on the credit report as min payment marker
  • MBNA produce statements online in pdf format if you want to download them - it is an exact replica of a paper one.

I'm a little surprised at this. Could you complain that the CC company is mis-reporting to the CRA and damaging your credit file?
