I did consider writing sites but is it possible to make a good amount on these sites?

I make a good amount from copy editing and I know that writing pays more, although it is obviously more time consuming. The good thing is that you are free to accept or decline any assignments, so at the worst it could be a good backup to better-paid work.
  • Try peopleperhour.com for better paid writing gigs, I'm a freelance writer myself, it's what I do, although granted, I'm also a professionally trained journalist so that helps. Still, if you are reasonably competent, you can definitely earn a nice little sideline income, not riches mind, but much better than the survey and cashback sites and better too than sites like Textbroker that only pay around £3 per article.

Are there any on-line courses you could do that relate to your job?

You could then up-skill with the bosses blessing and the extra qualifications/knowledge would be good on your CV if you ever want to change career or would help with promotions in future perhaps?

You could try share dealing as well, lots of time to research shares and then place the trades as the right time could see good returns. But you can always lose when trading so be careful!
