Credit file - remove incorrect default and info

hi all.. needed some help in getting default removed from my credit file.

O2 recorded a default on my credit file when the contract was ended for no fault on my part and now am facing problems in getting mortgage due to the default recorded. i have spoken to O2 and they have changed the status to 'Settled' according to equifax. Is settled status good? am not happy with it as to me it looks like i have paid and cleared my dues. I want it completely removed from my credit file.. whats the best way to do it?

Also HSBC has recorded a late payment for a loan which i took out from them and the payment goes out through standing order every month which was set up with the loan.. how can a payment be delayed when the money goes out on standing order? am chasing HSBC for it.. is there a way to get it rectified as well.

Same with Citibank.. i closed my credit card account in Jan after paying off all the money (there wasn't any balance. i pay my bills in full every month). Still they have put a late payment remark on my credit file for month of Feb. How can i have late payment when account itself was closed in Jan.

Am very annoyed by these wrong enteries on my file which is now causing me problems with remortgage.

Can i sue the above for damages as now am having difficulties in getting good mortgage offer due to the wrong entries in my credit file and unable to switch my mortgage to better offer when my current deal comes to an end this month.

Am very stressed out with continual rise of rate of interest i have missed out on good offers for mortgage and by the time all of this is settled the rates would have gone up even more.

I would appreciate if someone could guide me on how to go about gettings things sorted and suing the above companies.

You need to contact equifax. I believe there is a dispute process when there are incorrect entries on your file. I'm not sure what the process is as I've never done it myself but they'll be able to tell you more.
