Eco Solar UK Ltd

Anyone have any experience with these guys? One of them came to my home to quote a PV installation. I found the advice and explanations on different systems very informative however I got the line "the purpose of this visit is to see if you're interested in securing a deposit" - which I immediately hit the brakes on and said I only wanted a quote. I also told him he was the first person I'd had visit so I was never going to agree to a price based on one quote anyway. He continued with the pitch and quoted me circa £10k (:O) for 16 panels and micro inverters but could apply a discount if I ordered now because they were doing other installations in the area. I again told him I need to consider other quotes first and his leaving line was "is there anything I can do to secure your business today?" which was the final nail in the coffin for me as I feel I was being pushed to make a decision.

    One word "expensive"

You should be looking at £5-7000 depending on what sort of kit your looking for.

Where are you? which way does you roof face? why mini inverters?

If you can give a bit more info then you'll get more help in return

I'm in Stoke on trent with a south facing roof (190/200 degrees). Advised on mini inverters for the longer guarantee and if theres a problem with one it won't affect the entire system.

Any shading issues? there's no need for micro inverters if there is no shading. Most inverters are good for at least 10 years(you'd have to be unlucky for less) and may last much much longer.

You could go for a solaredge system and even keep tabs via remote monitoring if you felt the need

My understanding is that by using tactics like that they are breaking the REAL code. Were they definitely accredited and would pay FITs as they may be making other shortcuts if they are behaving like that?

Agreed, solar PV systems shouldn't be sold like double glazing of yesteryear.

Can't find any trace of Eco Solar UK Ltd on the Renewable Energy Association or Microgeneration Certification Scheme databases.

They are breaking the RECC code - they should not be pressurising you to sign on the day nor should they be offering a discount of more than £250. That is also a high price for a standard 4kw system - we've recently had a system fitted for under 7k.

Hiya Allan, I'd suggest putting the cowboys behind you, and getting a few more quotes/visits to help with your knowledge and understanding.

Look for quotes starting with a 6 (and ideally ending in ,000).
If no shading, then probably little point in micro-inverters, or power optimisers.
Ask for more thoughts on quotes/packages as you start to narrow things down.

    Happy hunting.
