Help - getting round why I want part time work

Congratulations on getting to interview!

The first thing that I’m wondering is why exactly do you think that the interviewer may question your reasons for wanting part time work?

I would tend to agree with a number of the other contributors who say that you don’t need to over-analyse this. Looking at the ideas you’ve come up with, I’m left with the over-riding feeling that they all have the potential to seem problematic to employers & raise more questions than they answer.

As others have mentioned, if the employer is advertising part time hours, then they are unlikely to ask why you want said hours. If they do ask, it is arguably better to say that part time hours work well for your circumstances, rather than stating that you would like to work two jobs, as this may give the impression of being a wee bit flighty, or that you wouldn’t be fully committed to either job.

You don’t specifically mention why you’ve applied for part time work. Is there any scope to just be honest (in the most positive manner possible) if you’re asked about your motivation for wanting part time hours? I agree with browneyedbazzi that, wherever possible, honesty is the best policy.

Having had the interview this was the best answer^^ that I had gone along the lines of, need not have worried turns out the manager had started part time!
Don't know why I didn't think of going part time before now! d'oh all them weeks unemployed I could have been doing something active, would have been better then picking up JSA alone


Should have answer end of week!
