my prize came all smashed :(

i won a framed signed poster that arrived today smashed to pieces it was only wrapped in 2 pieces of bubble wrap !!!!!! i have emailed and told them as i dont think its fair cause the poster is ruined because of all the broken glass shards , i just had a reply to my email that says it was wrapped in several pieces of wrap and came special delivery and they will look into it , am i right in thinking it should have been in a box , im sure i wouldnt send a fragile item this way when selling on ebay
also should they send me another if they have one or maybe something else if not , what are my rights as a prize winner , i dont want to sound ungrateful or anything but all my prize is fit for now is the bin

its prolly down to royal mail,we received some dvds through the post this morning which looked like theyd been stood on and another one was half opened its a bloomin joke

Just make sure you keep the item in question, as proof so to speak. Don't throw it away just yet. Maybe email them a pic of it? To tug at their heart strings!

That's such a shame. As others have said keep hold of it & if poss take a picture. The company will be able to claim off RM (I think special delivery covers £500) so that should cover the cost of a replacement - unless it was signed or similar?

I'm sure the company will want their prize winner to be happy. Just keep any communications polite but persist if they leave you too long.

i have thrown all the glass away i didnt really want a big pile of it hanging about , i signed for the pic but it didnt come with royal mail it was someone else , not sure what will happen now , i still have the pic and frame

Royal Mail will not pay out for glass, mirror . Check with the couier whom sent it if they will insure this??? I'm sorry this has happened, its awful. Maybe if they do have another it would be better sent rolled on its own for you to frame yourself, that way you know it shouldn't arrive damaged.
I have posted mirrors etc in the past, I do mention on my ads that royal mail or other carriers will not insure them. Although I certainly use more than 2 pieces of bubblewrap. I use layers of card either side to add support and resistance to bangs, and then put in outer box that is well padded. I have been fortunate up to yet, not one has arrived damaged, but either way its a risk.
