Covering letter for CV - temp to perm

I will be applying for a permanant job whre im currently temping and been asked to submit my CV and a covering letter,what sort of things should i include in the letter please? And how long should it be?

    depends on the job.

    Most covering letters should not be more than around 10 lines.

    All you are trying to do, is show you have went to some effort, and not just fired off a CV.

    So start by saying why you are writing and for what job.

    Then a little about yourself.

    Then why you will be good for the company.

    Then thank them.

    You just want them to be interested enough in you to want to read your CV.

    Remember you don't need to repeat what is already in your CV.

    I think that the key things to get across (as concisely as possible) are the reasons why would want the permanent role and what you have to offer i.e why should they give the post to you and not someone else? I think it’s also important to get across a sense of enthusiasm (without going over-board ), as an employer likes to know that an individual really wants the role and is committed to staying with the company.

    Sniggings advice is good. Keep it to one page of A4 and don’t assume that the employer knows that you have the relevant skills just because you already work for them. Treat the letter as you would do if you were applying never having met the employer.
