Help please email access

Phew !! bit of a scare this morning. I couldn't get in my yahoo / bt email account. Got a page saying I'd been compromised and had to run a virus scan and change my password.... ran the scan with Avira and there were no virus results
I then brought up the yahoo page on a google search logged in with my usual password and that was fine.
I'm thinking the first one might have been a con to try and get my password as it was suggesting different virus scans to download ?
Is this something anyone else has experienced please ?

Where did the original page come from? (eg was it your home page, did you type in yahoo url correctly etc)

Sounds like your pc could be infected. If Avira shows nothing I would try Spybot and Malware Bytes as well.

Also post on the techie board if it happens again.

If you went to Yahoo's home page then logged in you should be ok (though change your password) NEVER follow a link sent to change your password though!

Thanks Bluebella and starrybee.
It was from a shortcut on my desktop when that popped up. Seems OK when I go in from a Google search now, but I'll change my password anyway.
