Changes to Power of Attorney legislation

Just to remind everybody that on 1st October 2007 changes come into effect introducing a new LASTING POWER OF ATTORNEY, which replace the existing ENDURING POWER OF ATTORNEY documentation. The new L.P.A will cover more areas and must to be registered with Court before it can be used, whereas the existing EPA does not have to be registered until the donor loses their mental capacity and can be used before that event with the donor's agreement in the event of temporary incapacity, etc. Existing Enduring Power of Attorney documents will still be valid after 1st October 2007. These are very useful documents to have especially those caring for elderly relatives as many institututions these days will not deal with your efforts to act on somebody else's behalf without sight of a Power of Attorney.
