Capital allowance, car written off

I was unfortunate enough to be involved in a car crash (other persons fault) and the car I used for my work was written off, the insurance paid out £6,200 and I bought another for £4,576. I was wondering if anyone could help me with the filling of the capital allowance section of the self assessment form, it might be simple for some people but I just can't get my head around what figure goes in what box. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the carry forward figure for the old car is £2,365, thanks for the reply
  • Sorry I didn't see your edit, the new car was bought in December 2012 and the co2 is 139, the old car was bought in march 2007 and the co2 was 156. I don't know if this is relevant but this if for my self assessment 2012/2013
  • My apologies for the mixed up replies

Old car b/f 2365 proceeds 6200 (really) balancing allowance (taxable profit) 3835.
    New car cost 4576 wda @18% 824 c/f 3752
The only thing that is constant is change.

I've probably answered the questions incorrectly, the car that was written off was bought for £12,962 in march 2007 and the co2 emissions were 156, the carry forward figure for the capital allowance purpose is £2,365 for the year 2012/2013, the market value for the write off was £6,200. I bought the new car for £4,576 in December 2012 and the co2 emissions are 139

Typo - balancing charge. i.e. negative capital allowances

    New Car - as stated.

  • I can't thank you both enough.
After all the great help I thought I better get up to speed with a better understanding of certain parts of the self assessment form and it turns out I have been miscalculating my carry forward figure for my car since 2008 when it dropped down to 20%. I was calculating it using the 25% as it was before 2008 and that how I came up with the total of £2365 for the tax year 2012/2013. Should I get in touch with the tax office or will it work itself out because I'm taking a far bigger hit this year
