There are a lot of things to be concerned about in the world of Pay Day Lending.
This isn't one of those things.
Non story.
In fact I object to MSE saying "preying on kids" like the child catcher is waiting in the back of the store with a big net and a !!!!!! Dastardly moustache a-twirling.0 -

This company was offering a FREE visit and photo with Santa - very money saving actually, and should be applauded by this site.
People have free will - MSE, why can't you accept that?
Well this site is all about Martin Lewis' ego, money-saving is just a side-effect."Can't you have your ***** cut off ?" "It's not as simple as that, Nigel"

Martin Lewis has very little to do with this site anymore - he is merely a figurehead.
It is now owned by a large corporation who I think paid 60 million or more quid for it.0 -

I seeI still think it's a bit of a witch-hunt. Yes PDLs are shysters, but as someone wrote on here the other day, these companies don't need to be "clever" when people are so stupid.

I'm afraid that any impression that your post intended to give that you actually know what you are talking about disappears completely on the basis that Wonga is in fact very much a British company.
It is US owned but based hereBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Because then MSE might have to tell people that it's their fault they took out a payday loan they couldn't afford, and not the evil Wonga etc.urs sinserly,

Hi,
Maybe the problem is that the site needs to draw in the crowds to make it profitable and telling people that they need to take ownership of their own problems is a message that sells?
I guess I can see both sides of the arguement, I have been in a position of difficulty with these (among other) debts and if I came to a site which didn't support me and feel good then I wouldn't have stuck around?
I cringe when I read some comments posted on some threads from people who basically talk down to people who they know nothing about just because they've started a thread under 'Credit Cards' as opposed to 'Debt Free Wannabe' and get ripped to shreds - we are not all benefits scroungers looking to get out of repaying what we owe although we might be wallies who thought we could cope and got it wrong!
It's even worse when those comments are posted by people who have all their stars, have posted and been thanked thousands of times because then it feels even more like you are wrong and don't deserve to be helped? Perhaps that isn't how it was intended but it's like a text - ever had a date cancelled by someone just sending "Hi, sorry I can't do tonight I'll call later"? it might actually mean "My mum is ill and I need to go look after her so can we re-arrange please?" but thats not what is going through your mind because you have a few words as opposed to an explanation...
Anyway, vent over - this is still a none story which should go as far as someone telling them it's perhaps not a great idea to offer free Santa pics in a pay day loan shop so don't do it. End of story...

Say no more......
Historians at Harvard University claim that they have discovered a link between the modern day Santa Clause, the Dutch Sinter Klaas and exiled child molester and 17th century Finnish poet, Lisko Alapartanen, roughly translated, "Mr. lower beard's lizard."
Historian Dr. Bob Nolan said that he and his team of researchers had been working on a project to trace the root of Santa Clause for about a year before the discovery was accidentally made.
"We found the records of a Finnish poet who had been exiled to the North Pole for child molesting," Nolan said. "At some point during his exile, there was a conversion."
"Obviously, we did not have the help of sex registries since lists of registered Finnish sex offenders do not go back to the 17th century."
Spokesperson for the Finnish sex offender registry, Auvo Haukipää, (Mr. Blissful Pikehead) confirmed this assertion.
Nolan said that originally the team had been investigating the Roman Catholic Church's "miracle worker," St. Nicholas who later became known as the patron saint of children and oral sex when the connection to "Mr. Lower Beard" was discovered.
It was reported that the Finnish poet, "Mr. Lizard" liked to lure children into his family jacuzzi with Finnish chocolate and molest them. According to sources, the clever poet would tell the children that there were fish swimming around below the surface in the murky water and every time they felt something funny touch them it was one of the fish.
Researchers say that conclusive evidence linking "Mr. Lizard" to child molestation activities was found in the following limerick written by the poet:
There once was an old poet in Finland
Who had a pet lizard in Lapland
He used to let it run loose
Chase children and goose
But it couldn't out run the pack man.
No elves at the North Pole have every complained of abusive treatment by their boss.0 -
"Fabforty told us: "I noticed they were predominantly being given to people with young children, like myself."
Really? So they were handing out leaflets advertising photographs with Santa to people with young children, rather than those walking around with teenagers? The rotters!0 -
I think it's a bit sensationalist to say that they're 'preying on the weak'. This is just an advertising campaign no different to many others. Unless you're going to ban them outright (or ban all advertising for them, like cigarettes) then you can't really complain about how they advertise. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
