Lost Pension

When I returned to this country, my new employer gave me the opportunity to merge previous pensions. That started a long search and I have come to a brick wall with one so I'd appreciate some advice.
The Pension Tracing Service gave me two companies for one previous employer (I worked for them in 1981-82) - Barclays and ANZ McNaughton. My letter to ANZ McNaughton was returned to me and I gather they were dissolved some years ago. Barclays responded saying I was not eligible for their pension scheme as I left the company before I was 25 - but I must have contributions somewhere? My previous employer was taken over by another company and I have written to them and they replied on Barclays headed paper saying they only took over the scheme in 2007 and they have no older records.
Not sure what do to next.

who did you work for in 81-82?
Was it a final salary scheme?
is it possible they refunded the contributions with your final pay cheque as it was a trivial amount? The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Capel-Cure Myers
Not sure what type of scheme it was.
They may have refunded it although I don't remember it. Unfortunately, I've got all my payslips since 1982 but not before.0 -
As you probably know Capel Cure Sharp are still listed as a subsidiary of Barclays so I would go back to them and ask what they did with your deferred pension when they bought CCS (then part of Gerrard) from Old Mutual. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0
