Tax owing from 2010/11

in Cutting tax
I am 74 and worked until August 31st 2012. I paid PAYE on my salary through employer also taking State Pension this ran ok for 13 years. I also received another small pension from a previous employer on which tax paid by PAYE also. As soon as I received my P45 in September 2012 I sent a copy to the tax office as I did not want to overpay tax. The previous year I was in credit of £29. In November 2013 I received a letter saying I owed £300 and they would be taking it out of my pension payments from April 2014. As I gave them all the relevant information why have they miscalculated? Do I have any redress as I am now on a limited income. Any help appreciated.

I'm not sure you have any redress because HMRC can take their time about adjusting tax codes and it often does take a while where pensions are involved, but before going anywhere with that, if you tell us for 2010-11 what your tax codes on your employment and your small pension were, and what your P60s said, and how much state pension you received, someone can probably verify whether the tax demand is correct.Signature removed for peace of mind0
