No I meant to spell that with a spelling mistake so I can be just like the company who advertised the job. You all think IT'S ok to do so just doing the same! :rotfl:

    Of course you did AP.

That's why you do it a LOT in other posts too, isn't it :D :rotfl:

    I'm with Denning.

Organize = Old English. Organize is also clearly listed in the OED as perfectly correct.

Anybody remember the Inspector Morse episode when Morse explains the rules regarding 'ize', 'izations' and 'isms' to Lewis?

It so annoys me at work when I have to write organise, realise etc.

I apologize for being pedantic ;-)

As long as your consistent, it doesn't matter. Just because its a different variant of English, doesn't make it wrong.

You're arguing consistency in punctuation is important :T

I am sick of seeing jobs advertised with no indication of the salary range or even the location of the job. There is no point wasting everybody's time applying for jobs which either pay less than I get now or in a location which wouldn't work for me.

I am also very sick of these online applications which take forever to fill in the same old guff every time - my education and job history remain constant so why they will not accept this on a CV and then allow you to do the supporting separately for them I do not understand. As I work full time I frequently start to apply for jobs and run out of time to complete the things.

If I were in recruitment, I would be put off by American spellings if it were a job requiring high literacy skills but I would have to try to get over myself otherwise I think as it is definitely creeping more and more into our written language. A bigger offence for me would be 'bored of' or 'gotten'.

With that last comment, perhaps you should emigrate.

Hmm to where? I get told I HAVE to spell this way in this country. Despite my best attempts, my Local Authority (English) DO NOT want me to spell according to the OED.

Rather a strange response but emigration is becoming a very attractive proposition ;)
  • If you were annoyed because you have to use "-ise", and can't use your preferred "z", then you have a problem. Avoid using American spellings.

I find it annoying when you do use English spellings you get a squiggly red line underneath. I get tired of checking something that is correct. Same nonsense if you put a U in colour, flavour, yada yada yada :D

Ahh but this is where YOU have a problem.

My 'preferred' z is not an American spelling. I refer you back to my previous post wher I have quite clearly stated the use of the 'z' is perfectly correct according to the OED.

I do not have a problem.
