Phone jammers

did you read the link in post 5?
thanks.
No, I didn't. have now done so.
It doesn't really alter my replys points though.
Apart from: it's now clearly illegal for the company to have installed jammers (if that is what they've done) and the OP should contact ofcom.
Perhaps then the company can just sack a few people instead for flouting their rules rather than taking this 'hammer to crack a nut'.
Is it possible they haven't installed active jammers but have instead installed some sort of passive blocking technology?
Have to be frank: if it was my business and mobile use was a serious issue in work time I would make it quite clear in writing what the company required and what effects to the employee may happen if the problem persisted and they were found to be acting contrary to the policy.
I'd get the employees to sign to acknowledge they'd seen such, I'd advise that mobiles should be switched off the moment they got to work.
I'd then use the disciplinary procedure in every breach.
The message would soon get through.
The problem is that the majority of people are at work to do work and recognise that fact and don't take the pi$$, unfortunately with everything in life some people don't just send the odd text, they spend hours per week texting when they are being paid to work.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

Our manager told a guy yesterday who was caught using his phone that all our phones will no longer work within the premises as the company had to act because certain people were flouting the rules, so everyone suffers, im sure everyone here sends a few sneaky texts during work hours, or goes online for whatever reason.
Yes I am sure people here send texts and go online for whatever reason, I know I do. But then I'm not banned from doing it.0 -
You could always just go through the day without using your phone
You know, like we used to do only a few years agoChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -

Everyone here does not have a complete ban on mobile phone usage at any time on the employers premises. You do have such a ban and breaching it is a disciplinary offence if the employer chooses to make something of it. Is a phone call worth losing your job? If you don't like the employers terms, get another job.0 -
It isn't good management. They certainly should have consulted with staff before doing something like that. And since it shows a lack of trust and removes perceived control from individuals it's also likely to make staff unhappy and less productive. So it will probably not achieve the intended outcome.0

We aren't allowed our phones outside of breaks, people have been disciplined.
In one block there was a complete ban on having phones at all (due to there being sensitive material) and people were sacked.
It is just not worth the risk.0 -

Every job I've had we weren't allowed to use a mobile whilst at work let alone have it on our person. It would be a different case if the employer were pretty lax in the rules.0 -
Quick question: Do you work underground?

Only joking, it's illegal if they are jamming your signal. I'd be tempted to take them to court, but how would you prove they are using jammers? They'd probably just uninstall them by the time of the case....0 -
Do what smokers do - go outside, in your break.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.
