Estate agent looking for a deposit to take property off market

Hi

We got sale agreed on a house yesterday but the estate agents is looking for us to put down a deposit of £1500 to take it off the market. Is this common practice and will I be refunded? We got a great deal on a house for 85k! I just don't understand us the buyer needs to give the estate agent anything?

thanks

Agreed. Ask EA if it is refundable.

what`s the point of a refundable deposit ?

If you consider the situation then there are quite a few reasons. For instance if the vendor withdraws the property then the deposit should be refunded?
  • What exactly are they doing with my £1500? I find it strange

Is it a common estate agent? Sounds fishy to me. *If* you do make sure you give it to the company and not a person if that makes sense! Sorry if it sounds obvious.
People don't know what they want until you show them.

The EA seems it as a form of commitment and feel you are less likely to pull out of the deal. Talk to EA, and if you are still not convinced, don't pay it.

Personally, I would tell them to stuff it........but commonsense does not previal when it comes to house buying!

    Sounds dodgy.
  • 2% of sale price is a bit steep! As long as I get it back once the sale is through I don't have much of a problem. O and Don't worry I will be making it out to the company and not an individual lol

Tell them no and inform the vendor what they are trying to do
