taxable jsa

I've just finished claiming jsa and was told initially it was income based only as no NI contributions. Now I've had a letter saying it's taxable? I didn't think income based was taxable. Any ideas?

Yes - it is taxable.
Whether it was income based or contribution based makes no difference to that.
Though it is taxable, if you do not receive sufficient income (from employment, from JSA, and from interest/dividends etc combined) then you do not, of course, pay tax on it.0 -
Hopefully it won't screw up our housing and tax credits awards, I can't remember if they asked whether it was taxable or not. Thank you

I'm not well versed in housing and tax credits but I would have imagined they would ask what your sources of income were not whether they were taxable. Being "taxable" doesn't mean they are taxed. Those who administer housing and tax credits know that JSA is taxable.0 -
Yes its taxable and you will get a P45 - it goes towards your taxable earnings in a tax year.flamingo747 wrote: »I've just finished claiming jsa and was told initially it was income based only as no NI contributions.
