I've burnt my little girl's birthday cake
. I tried chopping off the burrnt bits but what's left has little substance. It was a madeira recipe
I've looked online and the suggestion seems to be to make a trifle. I'm not sure how this would go down - she doesn't like very sweet things and never had jelly desserts.
Anything else I can do with the middle of the cake - can I turn it into another cake???

You could make cake pops.
Never done it myself but I saw a girl on junior masterchef rescue a burnt (or underdone?) cake with them. Here's an example:

It uses three kinds of cake but I'm sure that's not necessary for a scrummy result0 -
Serve it with jam and custard as a pudding.Slimming World at target0

Are you trying to rescue it as a birthday cake or have you made another?
I freeze sponges in chunks and defrost as needed and serve with custard.Piglet

if the cake is quite deep, cut in half or into 3 layers, then use a round cutter to cut circles and make mini cakes - sandwich with jam and butter cream, cover with a butter cream or fondant if you are using it.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500
