Job seekers cancellation

Hi guys,

I applied for Jobseeker's Allowance online and then the day after, I was offered a job I interviewed for several weeks ago. I would like to cancel my first job seekers agreement interview and my claim all together. I keep calling the job centre, they say to hold so that I can be connected to my relevant call centre but then the line goes dead. I've called the centre direct but after a while of holding I get hung up on? I've been trying to call to cancel the claim from 9am until now. What happens if I just don't attend the first interview (which is tomorrow morning)? Will they just cancel my claim anyways? I'm really trying my best here but I can't get through.

Thanks for any advice.

I think I'd attend the interview, and tell the advisor you've got a job and want to cancel the claim.

In theory if you don't attend they will close the claim anyway BUT I don't know whether it might affect your ability to claim in the future. (It shouldn't, but I'm not sure).

Thanks for your response. I've been ill all week so was hoping to not have to go out in the cold but if I have to go then I will do. But in the mean time will keep trying to call them up. Thanks again
  • I've just called up a different number I've found for the benefits office and they told me that if I can't get through to my local office (they didn't even have a number to give me) then if I were to not attend my interview, they will just cancel the claim and it will not affect me in the future. Just in case anyone reads this for future knowledge.

no need to go in, either ring and hope to get though or just don't turn up, then it will be cancelled.

No problem making another claim in the future if you fail to cancel the appointment before they do.
  • Thank you very much for confirming sniggings.
