Thanks for all your help folks but Bluebelle was dispatched yesterday.
We now have 3 Isa Browns who are supposed to be canny chooks but one is a bit bolshy and put Diego the Dorgi in his place very quickly. Looking forward to eggs in about 10 days or so.....Debts 07/12/2021

Congrats to both of you for making the brave practical decisions, hopefully the bumblefoot is banished!
It's a vision of calm here without psycho chicken around, definatly the right decision.
Also pleased to hear about the duble yolker I've not had one yet!
This one's now my fav: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CHICKEN-COOP-HOUSE-HEN-POULTRY-ARK-NEW-PR2_W0QQitemZ150365460365QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Poultry?hash=item23027ad78d&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l12620 -
I was looking at that one, but then I noticed that instead of wood on the back bit where they roost, there's mesh. Surely that would make the chickens wet and cold?0

Good luck Spirit with your chook - you have much more handy neighbours than me
Mesh at the back of the nesting box would probably stop them using it to sleep in and would stop them getting broody I would imagine, but surely a no goer if you want to raise chicks?
Edit> Oops, scrap that last comment, just re-read it - not sure about having mesh at the back of the roosting area? Although My chicks have their door open all night and it doesn't seem to worry them (as they have a secure run). Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

As far as I can tell it's mesh and a wood panel over the top. If you look at the lower down pics then it shows both sides of the top area covered. Maybe the mesh is for looking without letting them out? No one would sell a chicken ark that wasn't even vaguely weatherproof, there are plenty of positive comments about it.0

Katharine, the second one is the one I have just bought, I posted about it a couple of pages back, along with a photograph of it - same sellerI reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Ah yes, so it does.Thought it was a bit odd! Think I might get that one when I'm ready.
How many chickens would that be ok for do you think?0 -

I've managed to obtain some slabs, being delivered this weekend, so looks like I may have a mini patio job going on over the next week to sit the new coops on top of. I'm planning on running tying wire underneath the slabs as they get laid, so I can secure the runs against any possibility of being blown over in our winter gales. (I live in a very exposed area that gets blasted by gales constantly.) The slabs will mean that the runs can be hosed clean each day whilst the chickens are out playing in the garden.I reserve the right not to spend.
