Good luck with your little hen. Having just lost my favourite black rock too I feel for you.
  • Just in case anyone is interested, I wanted some maggots for my chicken who had sour crop, I do not have a fishing shop near me, so I had to look online, some of the maggots looked horrid, all coloured, but found one an auction site Eb** they sell small quantities, I think they are for feeding to reptiles etc, anyway they are not dyed, and are fed on oats and honey , so no problem - as I read you can get problems with maggots fed on carrion, just look up pet supplies section and put in "live maggots" they are cheap, and are sent in a little petrie dish 1st class post, no wastage as some people buy 1/2 pint and throw the rest away, just thought I would mention it as they arrived within 24 hours of ordering £2.30 inc postage! and not everyone can get to the shops!
    bargain!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope everyones chooks are doing well.:)

There's no need for waste - just feed the leftovers to the rest of the chickens!

How big a quantity did you get for £2.30?

Locally I get a pint for about £1.30 and there is never any waste, the chooks love them and there is a near riot when they spot them.

Baby sabelpoots growing by the day, they are soooo cute and will be 2 weeks old on friday, I cant believe the colouring on their wing feathers and they look so funny with fluffy feet, but boy can they fly already when jumping out of the hutch to the outside run....
On a more depressing note "Sue" the female hen is still cox a doo ing every morning, of course we have never had an egg in the 3 months or so that we have had her..... I'm really feeling down about it as she has grown on us as a pet but I can't keep her much longer as she is waking the elderly neighbours, I hate the thought of the inevitable with her, but I am finding it sooo hard to rehome a female hen that crows and dosent lay eggs!!!!:o
I just wish I could find a kindly person who had a lot of space and didn't mind no eggs!!!
