Our friends had one chook who was always bullied by the others in the run so she lived free-range in the garden, nipping into the kitchen to eat the cat food and would come in and sit by the fire on a chilly afternoon.0

Picture of Maisie and Matilda. There are some more chickeny pics here.
RebekahR, you will cope, just don't get too many
Giger, I hope Sweetpea learns some manners soon! Ouch, that was a luck escape.
I've had to bring Rose in, she hasn't been eating and the weight has just dropped of her and she has lost a good few feathers, so now she is tucked up in a cat carrier in the utility room with a good supply of sweetcorn.
Her crop seems clear, I can't find any injuries or parasites. I'm off to get her some live meal worms, she adores them. Any ideas anyone? My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

It's so hard to tell what's wrong with them when they're poorly, isn't it? Have you tried worming her? That's the only other thing I can think of.0

Thanks, good idea about worming, I'll sort that tomorrow. I brought her indoors and, after she refused the sweetcorn I gave her some warm mash then some meal worms. She ate them both all up! Weird, she wouldn't touch the mash when I fed them all outside this morning.
She seems quite settled in the utility room for the night so I'm wondering if she is just really feeling the cold because of her feather loss. We shall no doubt see!My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

I wonder if she didn't eat the mash with the others because she's feeling poorly and didn't want to deal with the argy bargy that goes on when there's food around. I've noticed when mine are ill that they tend to hang back at breakfast time and stand around on their own the rest of the time.
Anyway, hope she starts to feel better soon. I've also got one that seems a bit down atm and as she's had a really mucky bum, I'm currently worming her in case it's that.0 -
Does anyone know what might be wrong with Botty.
She is the boss of the four and is off colour from yesterday afternoon.
I noticed her crop was like a ballloon and when i squeezed it , out flew a lot of flem and bits of food through her beak. I have got rid of as much as possible, by gently squeezing her crop and lowering her head. Her bum is a bit messy too.
Mrs White ear isalso off colour . She has always suffered from this or that and have just wormed them except Botty and will give them some frontline later on today. I don't however think that their illnesses are the same, although her bottom is also slightly messy.
Any ideas ? Thanks in anticipation.
Ok just googled and came up with sour crop - so off to the fishing bait shop tomorrow and try and get her some sugared water down."if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170 -

Celebrations in our house today - Astrid has laid for the first time since October! Amelia and Matilda were new last summer, and have continued to lay all winter, so today was a 3 egg day!!0

Hi all,
We've had a poorly Rosie for a few days so she's been inside sleeping in our dining room in front of the fire. Luckily we have a tiled floor!! She's perked up now, I think it's stress as opposed to naything else and she gave us a few wonky eggs, including a round one a bit smaller than a golf ball!
We had our best ever egg day last week - 8 eggs, and we've had 6 so far today. I suspect that when it gets even warmer we shall be a little sick of eggs0
