Hi guys, my tiny Pekins are starting to lay! :D I've had a total of 3 eggs so far, I think from the blue hen. Fingers crossed the Araucanas start laying soon. Ducks still laying almost every day, so we've had eggs all year round from our lot.

We did hear a cockerel crowing in our town about a month ago, it was near some allotments so I doubt the law locally will be a problem. We will just have to sweeten the neighbours up with free eggs if they are unhappy at all. :D

as long as they aren't vegan or have egg allergies that might just work ;):p

I just thought I should warn people, about having cockerels when you have near neighbours, that someone killed our cockerel. We never did find the culprit but I am sure it was no accident.

Poohbear, I sometimes feel like shutting my lot up permanently, they really can be annoying and that's from someone who keeps them. I can imagine what it must be like for someone working late nights or nightshifts or with little kids and having to listen to cockadoodledooooooooooo before dawn every morning. Not so bad this time of year but summertime means as early as 3.30am. Still, I'd have thought complaining neighbours could have had the decency to complain directly rather than take thing into their own hands. I hope you reported the incident to police.

I've just set a half dozen eggs into my incubator - Silkies and Pekins. :)

The man from Del Monte, he say yes!

Or in other words, hubby has finally agreed to getting chickens. :j

It's only taken me about 5 years to persuade him! :rotfl:

Coop and run have been ordered. Can't wait!

Our hens are free range and DH was asking what has happened to our 'lawn'. It has a huge area of sludge.

  • I sympathise.

At the end of Jan, I completely renewed all the bark chips in my hens run. Don't ask me how they have done it, but it is also just black sludge - in less than 3 weeks!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
