Going to pay via internet banking to the sort code and account number given on the back of the payment slip.
I assume it goes by FP, so when do I need to pay to be sure it arrives with them by 31st January?

It depends on your bank as some have same day payment and others are 2-3 days and with some you can specify which day you want the money to be paid. Check with your bank.0

Halifax will send it immediately and say it should arrive within 2 hours, but could take longer.
Is there not a deadline by which a FP has to arrive?0 -
Even within a single bank, it can depend on the amount and yoru standing with them
Why not use HMRC's online payment system - you can pay by switch card, and you get an immediate receipt
The other option is just to pay it today - you'll be sure it's got there by the 31st. Unless the amount is truly large, you'll lose only pennies in interestSo many glitches, so little time...0 -
You could try the old pay them £1 today and watch your SA account.
When is it credited?
What is the effective date of the credit?0 -
Have you tried to phone your bank & ask? It's good odds you are not the only customer with this query & an answerphone message with the info *may* be awaiting you.0

I have found out that Halifax say I should allow "up to the close of business on the next working day".
I cannot make a test payment as OH does not have online access to his SA account , so will allow an extra 2 days and pay on Monday.
Presumably it being in their bank is what really matters?0
