Admiral taken money from my credit card, I don't have a policy with them!

Wasn't sure which section to post this in!
Checked my online banking yesterday, to discover that Admiral had taken £275.19 from my credit card.
Both myself and my ex girlfriend have at some time had a car insurance policy with Admiral, but it's been at least a few years since then and we have both recently renewed our car insurance switching from one insurer to another, none of which were Admiral.
So, I rung Admiral up. Because I have no policy with them, they said they couldn't help and that I should speak to my bank about a chargeback.
Did this this morning. All well and good but they tell me it could take anything from 4 to 8 weeks! The helpful girl at Lloyds said that if Admiral would issue a refund then it would be much much quicker.
But who do I speak to at Admiral? I'm struggling to find a way to contact them for anything but Quotes or Claims!
I can't spend the next 4-8 weeks paying the minimum payment on a credit card debt that I shouldn't even have!
Any bright ideas?

Firstly i would be more concerned why the money was taken from your account...The bank should have a ref number to go with the payment, get the ref number and call Admiral back and demand to speak to the appropriate department. Give them the number and ask them to investigate, how do you know they won't attempt to take anymore from your card?0

Ahhh just found their Headquarters number! Should be more use than ringing the claims line.0

Have you checked to see if there is a payment to whoever your car insurance is with? Could Admiral be the underwriters? We had insurance last year with quotemehappy and aviva are the parent company and underwriters so the payment showed as being to aviva.0

Got through to customer services, they were considerably more helpful this time.
Turns out it's a policy in my ex's name, checking old credit card statements online shows they took a similar amount about this time last year. They couldn't tell me any more as I'm not the policy holder, but I am seeing her later so they said to get her to call.
Thing is though, she has been insured with the AA for the last year and has just renewed with them.
I can't see any reason for them to not refund the last payment they took, as it was only 6 days ago they did it (didn't show on the statement until the 20th).
The chances of them refunding the previous year though? I'd say they're slim to none.
What I don't understand though is how they managed to take the money. I had the card cancelled 2 months ago due to a fraudulent transaction, so the details they have on file shouldn't have gone through anyway!0 -
Two things. One, you need to take much more care of your money, finding out that hundreds of pounds went out over a year ago is plain stupid, if you have that much money to spare send it to me! Two, read up on Continuous Payment Authority, cancelling a card won't stop a request for money from being successful (as you've found) as the new card still relates to an underlying account at the credit card issuer.
You may be successful in recovering the earlier payment if you can provide proof to Admiral that alternative insurance was in force for the same period. And make sure that you tell your CC issuer to cancel the CPA from their end as well as telling Admiral to do it.0 -
And if the CC company say they can't cancel the CPA and the receiver (Admiral) must do so, they are lying.0

I'm usually pretty bang on it with managing my money, seperate account for bills which gets added to every time I get paid so everything is covered.
No idea how I missed this at all.
But the good news is that Admiral are refunding BOTH of the payments after checking with the AA that the car had indeed been insured with them since 2013.
