Discharged since 2009

Hi,

I was declared bankrupt in 2004 and discharged in 2009. I decided not to take or consider any finance until now, I would like to buy a home. I have requested my financial reports from numerous companies (experian etc) and I have a great credit history although I realize I must now build up a track record to improve it further so I will get a credit card and spend 5 pounds (as an example) and just pay the minimum amount just to show I'm paying on time.

Question: if there's no history of my bankruptcy anymore on my credit files, how will mortgage lenders know I've been bankrupt? I'm sure I can get a better rate if I say I haven't been bankrupt.

Thanks

The bankruptcy will be permanently record on the London Gazette/website. It's been alleged in the past that the Insolvency Service also holds an extended register that mortgage lenders can check, although I've never seen that particular "fact" confirmed.

If the bank doesn't ask, then fine don't mention it.

If they do ask however, not telling them would be application fraud and could get you into a great deal of bother.
