Lloyd's TSB

Back in the last quarter of 2004, me, my partner and my almost 1year old baby fly from Manchester airport to Singapore via Paris on Air France. The flight departed late from Manchester resulting in us missing our connecting flight from Paris to Singapore. We had to stay in an airport hotel and got on the next flight 24 hours later. When we returned after our holiday, we went to Lloyd's TSB as we have travel insurance under our current account. However, the female staff who attended to us said that we don't have a claim as their travel insurance covers only the delay or cancellation of the 1st flight. I know this has been 9 years ago but I was sharing my experience of it with my colleague today and he suggested that I put a post here to see if I have been given the wrong advise by Lloyd's.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I would have thought any claim would need to have been brought within 6 years. What are you wanting to claim for? I'm presuming Air France put you up?

My advice is to move on and forget about it. This was over 9 years ago so any claim would be barred now anyway!

There are very few exceptions to the 6 year limit for bringing a claim for damages. It's unlikely that any court would even want to hear the case after so long.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, AF did put us up but we had to 'fight' for it. I just wanted to know if the lady at Lloyd's has given us the right advise. Just seem strange that a travel insurance only covers the flight in and out of UK

The best way to find out if she was giving the correct advice is to look at the Ts&Cs of your travel insurance. They will tell you exactly what your travel insurance covered.

Any reply on here is just going to be guesswork without seeing the policy.

If anything this is an example of two things:

    - why reading and understanding the small print is important

    - why the cheapest deals aren't always the best and/or why you have to be careful when being seduced by sweeteners like free travel insurance

I really think this is a contractual issue more than anything op - so the lady could have been fobbing you off, but could equally have been correct. Hard to say :)

No, what she said was that it only covered the first sector, it's not to do with what country the flight took off from, but whether it was the first sector or not.

What is it that you want to claim for?

Also, if you are checking the Terms & Conditions of your insurance, you want to check what they were at the time of the booking and the time of travel, not how they are worded now.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?
