Hi

Just wanted to say a big thank you for everyone helping my silly questions, the help has been immensely appreciated. Since joining this forum a few weeks back ive managed to cook fantastic specimens of chicken pies, cherry pies, peach compote, chicken pasta salad, quiche and muffins and ive had ideas for plenty more meals in the coming weeks!

Ive also started using vinegar to clean with, I think my mum thinks im mad.

What progress have you made since joining here and what are you going to try next?

    Ooo good question!
I've been reading this board for a while but took the plunge and started to do more home cooking.. so far i've made
    shortbread
    toffee sauce
    flapjacks
marmite n cheese pinwheels (cheated by buying a pk of dough mix :o )
    cheese sauce
sketti with mushroom soup n tuna (was in the meal for £1 bit)
Nothing major but im really proud of myself and my littlegirls really into mummy cooking aswell. :)

I'm waitin 2 see when i can go shopping again so i can make the washing powder thing with slightly expensive powder+cheapo powder+soda crystals
Have not tried the viniger yet but i deffo will!
Am gonna try making some proper stuff off the recipe board instead of mostly sweet stuff :o:p
Everyones been really helpfull so a big :j to the OS'ers from Steph & Bratty

I would like to say thanks too :D

Ive made cherry muffins, raspberry & white chocolate muffins, blueberry muffins, double chocolate muffins ( we love the muffins :p ) also tried impossible pie and I can make a chicken last for 3 meals plus sandwiches.
I only use 1 washing powder tablet for a load of washing instead of 2 and havent noticed any difference in cleanliness. I got a recipie off here for smoothies which is better than any shop bought one. Im sure there are more things but I cant remember them right now. I already used vinegar and water in a spray can but I now use stardrops too.

Thanks for your help Oldstyle :j

steph - please will you point me in the right direction for the marmite & cheese pinwheels - they sound delish

Hi daisy, my cousin told me about the pinwheels
    Their really easy..
Basically u can use a pack of pastry or make ur own (dunno how yet!)
Make it and roll it out
Spread the marmite over it (i used to much n it wernt to good :o )
Sprinkle lots of cheese over it
Roll it up into a sausagey shape
    Then cut into slices
bake for about 20 mins (i did it till they were golden)
Then sit back and munch away :D

Sorry if my instructions are pants, im new to this :)

I'm gonna make them again this week but change the marmite to tomato puree so it'll be like a pizza pinwheel lol yummmm

Hope my instructions are ok :o

I gave up on sweet stuff and baking years ago when kids hit mid teens. DH and I not particularly sweet toothed. I do the odd crumble when DSIL is coming because I know he loves it but quite often a bought in pudding for his sweet tooth, Our DGSs not pudding wise - would rather have fresh fruit or yoghurt or biscuits and cheese. However, your recipes sound wonderful. I remember the days when I made all sorts or fancy puds, including lemon suffle - those were the days! (Also many moons ago made cheese souffle as a main meal which again worked out fantastic - not now working full time!!!

Well I've made lots of progress.

I'd never made lasagna till I saw how easy Black-Saturn made it sound - now I make it regularly.

Roast chicken - my favourite meal but it took me months to try and make it - now I cook it every month.

And lots of other recipes too - risottos, chicken and leek pie, chilli, curry, casseroles (without using a packet mix), pasta bakes without using jars of sauce etc.

Oh and lots of cakes too ;)

But most of all, I have learned how to adapt recipes so that if I don't have one ingredient I can improvise, change the seasonings etc. Why don't they teach you that skill in Home Ec for GCSE????

And I have gained confidence to try other recipes and the belief that I can cook :D (although have cooked a few things we didn't particularly like, and my Moussaka was very sloppy, nothing has been inedible).

I'll never be a top chef but the family don't complain - unless there isn't enough gravy or I haven't made any cake ;)

My next thing (when I have some spare time) will be to bake bread by hand - and pizza dough by hand for HM pizzas.
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
