Tax for adverts

Hello - I posted this on another area of this forum, so sorry if you have already seen/responded to it.

I earn approx £25k(before tax) per year in my work place and have recently started putting Google Adsense adverts onto my forum, i worked out i would probably receive around £200-300 per month.

Obviously after fee's (to remove the hosts adverts, costs to my home WiFi and mobile internet). i don't make too much in the way of profit.

Do i need to contact HMRC to let them know?

yes - you receive untaxed income and therefore must declare it. Initially this will simply be write a letter to HMRC setting out your gross income and net profit, they may decide to adjust your tax code rather than making you do a full tax return

whether you have to pay any tax will , as you know, depend on how much profit you make but there is no minimum limit below which you do not have to declare additional untaxed income (unless of course you wish to be dishonest)
