When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending :money:

Morning hope you're all well!
DFW things for today:
* checked banking
* checked cc statements. flights now posted
* requested £20 cashback from cc
* all meals from stores - grab something out of the freezer for dinner
* quick bath
* check onepoll throughout the day
* check ebay to see if it's worth selling our tumbler composter
* work from home & save 30 miles of petrol
* submit meter readings - must do this this morning
* hang up washing
* drop off moses basket & baby bits to refuge in my lunch break
* work hard & get through a number of outstanding items
* do some exercise - 20 minute shred!

Think that's all I need to do today. Happy Tuesday everyone x

Morning, thanks for starting dnms :j

Managed to make the early train today to will be in the office for 8:30...

I need to visit my nan this week as it's her husbands bday on Friday, and need to give the present my mum bought for him (she is away on holiday). They don't live near me so I'll have to get the train there after work, or go home and drive. I'm thinking train as it's covered by my season ticket, just it's SO LONG!!! Will try and go tomorrow..

    Quick list for today:
    • [STRIKE]Checked bank - all matched back to app[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Parked in road near station to save on parking[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Lunch from home[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Drink lots of water[/STRIKE]
    • Try and find a cheap bday card at lunch, they don't have card factory in London! :(
    • [STRIKE]Don't go in the sweet shop!! [/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Get the bus back to station after work- saves £1[/STRIKE]
    • Dinner from home- curry and rice
    • Find my study book, looked this morning and it's not in the flat so must be in car?!
    • Finish sorting paperwork tonight
    • Quick tidy about
    • Put washing away
    • List xbox games on ebay if I have time
    • Early night! :)
    • NSD apart from the card!!

Think that's all, I'll update later. Hope you all have a good day! X
  • Morning Lovelies!!

Firstly, I must apologise for having been rubbish on the forum front since getting home from Thailand!! That's not to say we haven't been continuing in our DFW ways...

I came back to work in a new post, which I'm absolutely loving!! It's 100mph all the time, but a fantastic opportunity (and loads of overtime available).
My new shifts are crazy though, so I've tried to be super organised and take in green tea bags, protein shakes and snacks to make sure I don't succumb to the dreaded vending machine!! Going well so far...
It's also not a uniform job, so OH is loving the sudden lack of washing!! Happy all round!

In other news, today's list goes something like:

    :) No Spend Day

:) Long bike ride before work - am getting back into training properly this year if it kills me!!

:) Heating can stay off - hoodie on!

:) Pay a £10 compo cheque into bank - can be moved into savings

:) Nectar Adpoints - this has been neglected so hoping there'll be lots of points available on there!

    :) Check free postcode lottery

    :) Quick shower

:) Put washing away and run Hoover round the house

:) Make jug of water with fresh mint & lemons in for the fridge (trying to cut down on squash)

:) Make a banana loaf for boys in work with black bananas in fruit bowl!

:) Left over pasta & meatballs for lunch

:) Clean car (inside & out) in work's yard before starting work

    :) Take dinner & drinks to work (3pm - 11pm)

:) Renew membership to work's gym - the princely sum of £2 per year!! Bargain!

:) Hoping for some more overtime tonight!

Think that's probably it for today! Hope everyone is well and looking forward to an exciting year in 2014!!

    Lots of love, Shoot x

  • Morning ALL

DNM thanks for the thread :)

    Morning world

Today's cunningly frugal plan is as follows

    Work from home in AM
    Walk dogs locally
Work from town in the PM (petrol expensed)
Meet a chum in the staff room for a DIY lunch and catch up
    Get some CV/application advice
    Walk dogs in toon (small)
Meeting a colleague to set up a stand at food bank
Walk dogs at beach near after (long)
Text dd see if she needs a lift and save her some bus dosh
    More work admin work
    Check banks
    Check cc's
Meals from stores - think tonight its rissotto but we have a lot of pearl barley cooked (slow cooker thanks KC) so we'll use that and must harvest spinach at work for that (free grub always good)
    Must remember lunch
Garage still to sort when I feel noble
Wood to chop when my mood gets in the zone
    FINISH job application once reviewed
NSD - we certainly don't need anything aside washing powder and I've just put out the last of the dog food but both can wait another day
Bit cleaning using minimal cleaning products
Look for more jobs - mustn't rest on laurels
more #100happydays to find.........who else is doing it - I forget.....

Well that's enough of a list for right now - lets see what DFW magic happens.
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:

    Morning everyone
I was up at 6.45am this morning
The electrician was here at 8am to put a new element in the cooker.

    Have completed several surveys
Checked postcode lottery, looked around freebie sites and entered a few comps.

Looked @ Quidco for the supermarket click thing.
Looking @ My supermarket so I know the savvy buys.

No heating on, just put some thick socks on my cold feet.Layered up on clothes.

Oh and I planted tomato seeds yesterday afternoon.
I see the crocus bulbs are in flower in our garden.

    Read the Mail online.

Dinner = steak pie and roast veg.

    Hello BT1

My suggestion if you havent already made the purchase, is to go along to Sainsburys at lunchtime. They regularly sell 25p birthday cards, & if you are feeling flush, can pick up a multi pack of fairly non offensive generic happy bday cards for about 99p with 8 or so inside. I use them all the time for kids bday cards.

    Hi All

Ziggy - I often see you mentioning the Lurpack codes. I absolutely love Lurpack & its the one item in my shopping basket that has been resistant to operation brand drop. I'd love to save on what I buy, can you explain a bit more?

MinnieMousesMummy -Have you considered tutoring as an option for work? I am currently looking into this myself. If you have completed A level English/Maths etc, you can earn decent money for this. Plus hours to suit. Just a thought.

This one deserves a big Capital Letter flag up! **** ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A NEW HOUSE INSURANCE POLICY, WANT £72.50 FREE***
Will stop shouting now. I went onto Greasy Palm today as our home contents had gone up by double since we took it out. I noticed a new offer whereby if you buy a policy through this agregator site called Policy Expert, you get £72.50 for free. I found a great policy with AXA that suits us, for only £12 per month, so am also saving myself about £6 per month. Worth a punt for anyone looking around.

    Me today

    1) I picked up £2.50 from Cash 4 Clothes for a small load I'd taken over yesterday.
    2) I have done Ad Points, got 74 today.
    3) Made 2 bags of breadcrumbs from some left over bread. I am going to make 1 into a treacle tart. Frozen the other. Any mouldy scraps out for the birds.
    4) Went to the library & took out books, to save the rewards for our weekend films.
    5) Boiled a kettle for a pot of coffee, saved the remainder in a flask to make into a cup of tea later.
    6) Checked all my bank accounts, business & personal.
    7) Reading a fab library book of thrift tips from the 1930s & amazed at how many are still practical now.
    8) Ate up fridge food for breakfast & lunch.
    9) Sent OH to work with a portion of lasagne from batch cooking efforts last night. Have enough for a home cooked meal for little man after swimming, & two more portions for husband & I dinner tommorow, or lunchboxes for husband.
    10) Music Magpie failed to pick up my boxes on saturday so they've promised to come out during 9-5 hours tommorow as an apology, better cos I dont have to waste another saturday of 8-8 at home!
    11) Discovered £16 in an old share dealing account, I've asked for it to be transfered to me
    12) Finished up a bottle of baby lotion that I was given when DS was born. He's now 5! That was the last of the toiletries from last years cull.

    By for now!

    Bob

    Hi all,
I'm all behind like a cow's tail today as have been busy supervising workmen. So only a titchy amount of money-saving things done:
*Did laundry overnight on Economy 7 wash at 30 deg.
    *Shared bath water.
*Resisted temptation to open lucsious new body cream when I still have one open & unfinished. Am having a real 'Use it up' splurge this month & next......that goes for everything....food, household stuff, cosmetics & toiletries.
*Made a dozen bread rolls for the rest of this week's lunches.
*Had a scoot round cupboard & fridge to round up all veg in need of using. Enough to prep a load of veg for mr f to have with last night's left over lentil roast & onion gravy, while I finish up all the salad. We throw away virtually no food at all here.....just the occasional orange or lemon which has decided to sprout fur overnight for no reason other than pure malice.
*Did some more of my current knitting project. (Double-sided scarf with one side of brightly coloured hearts on purple background & the other side stripey).
*Remembered to give mr f a birthday present to drop off on his way home from work...more postage saved.
    *Did a few surveys.
*Did meal plans for next week.
*Did shopping list for ordering tonight. We need an online shop this weekend, so we are going for Waitrose as it's free delivery for £50+, & a free bottle of champagne before 31st Jan. (Might need a 'My Waitrose' card for that, I'm not sure, but we both have one for the free coffees & newspapers so not going to say no to a bottle of free fizz, even if it ends up being put away for my birthday).
*Emptied out oodles of toaster crumbs which provided free breakfast for our robins.
*No heating on until 5pm at the earliest. Icy morning, but I seem to be getting more immune to the cold & have got a long sleeved top on, a long thick jumper & a handknitted shawl. It's only my feet which seem to feel the cold badly at the moment.
    *Updated freezer list.
    That's it for me today.
Ziggy - re garlic granules. ...they're probably ok if they don't smell rancid, but if you want an alternative use for them, mix with warm water in spray bottle, shake to dissolve & use as deadly weapon against greenfly/aphids. If you put a tiny dash of washing up liquid in there too, it'll be even more effective. P.S Am only recommending this for outside.....or you will have very stinky houseplants indeed!
