I have an ongoing issue with our local council tax office about a discount/exemption/disregard we have received since 2008. As part of this I am trying to clarify when the various discounts where brought in/changed their names since 2008. In particular what the 25% discount for carers was called &/or when it's name changed to 'carers disregard'. Any advice gratefully received.

The carers disregard for council tax has been in place since 01 April 1993.

What exactly is the argument over ?
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
