wescot address verification letter

Hi,

I need some advice..

I've recently received a letter from wescot asking to confirm my name and my address they are claiming its for a british gas bill at a property I never lived at. I told them this information on the phone and gave them the addresses I've lived over the past 9 years.

They said they will send this for some investigation and get back to me.

Should I send them a letter confirming this? I've never had any problem in the past with debt collection and have paid all my bills on time.

    Hi sivs

My take on this would be to sit tight for now. It doesn't sound to me as if there's anything for you to be concerned about - chances are that a debt is owed by someone of the same or similar name and this is therefore a "fishing expedition" on Wescot's part. I will look out for any updates you post on this.

    Regards

    Dennis @NDL

Thanks Dennis, so I shouldn't send a letter confirming the information confirmed on the phone.
  • Just do nothing. likely they will realise they have the wrong person. If they think its bothering you, they might try and get you to pay anyhow, even though its not your debt.

If they write again, post back for advice.

    Hi,

Arrived home yesterday and have received another letter from Wescot, however they have sent this to a neighnours address.

Shall I just ignore this? I have told them they have the wrong person as I have never lived at the address they have on file.

They're fishing! You are under no obligation whosoever to respond or even reply. If you wish to be perverse, advise a charge of £12 is required to cover your basic admin expenses, and on receipt of this you'll comply with their request.

They don't work for nothing - why should you?

Thanks Buzby, next time I might send them a letter requesting an admin fee. Called them on 17th January that they have the wrong person. Witheld my number as heard what these companies are like from reading this forum. The guy I spoke to said "sorry" and they would carry on with their investigations.

Next letter I get from them will just be put in the bin or would it be best to return not known at this address?
  • Use as toilet paper and ppst back to them.

Check you credit files to see if your address has been linked to the other one.

Always makes me laugh when they ask for an address confirmation, if they needed confirmation then why did they send it to that address anyway! Just fishing, ignore them!
