Dual Fuel seemingly isn't?

Thanks to MSE, I'm shifting E-ON to N-Power and my old Mum, Scottish Power to N-Power. Mum should save over £300 a year by no longer using gold plated KW's.

Seems a long process, this switchover, compared to previous times I've switched. Guess not helped by the IT chaos at N-Power, an utter shambles.

However, one thing seems to unify all 3 Power Co's we're dealing with. They treat & bill Electricity and Gas as separate items, even though it's called Dual Fuel. They want different Meter Read dates from each Meter, paperwork & now Final Bills are sent out individually for either Supply. Even the Telephone Care Bears have to read off two screens.
This for a Dual Fuel Account property?

It's say as if E-ON is actually split into E-ON Gas & E-ON Electricity .... ditto for the others. Dumb waste of paper and time but, I figure, not the Suppliers money.

If they were the same commodity, coming through the same pipes/wires and billed in the same way, then they could be billed as one.

There are more subtle and numerous reasons as to why they are treated separately, but I think that covers 90% of it.

    Hi SuffolkCoast

Most of our dual fuel customers now receive just the one bill detailing their gas and electricity charges.

There are exceptions, though, where we need to keep the gas and electricity separate.

For instance, prepayment dual fuel customers receive separate gas and electricity bills due to internal accounting reasons at our end.

There are also a few remaining dual fuel credit customers who, often because of historical circumstances, are billed separately for their gas and electric.

However, with credit accounts we're gradually putting them together so both fuels are detailed on the one bill.

    Hope this explains.

  • Npower are an absolute shambles. It took them over a year to set up my gas account, and 6 months after switching away they are still yet to send through my final gas bill. I personally don't think the small saving compared to the next-cheapest is worth the hassle. If you're within your cooling-off period (which seems unlikely as it takes them a month to send through the letter telling you you can cancel in this 12-day window!) I'd take it and go elsewhere. I've been with them twice and each time an absolute joke. Terrible. I hope you've a lot of patience otherwise.
    Friendly greeting!
