Email addresses

Good morning,

just wondered if anyone has an opinion on whether your email address can hinder chances of a win??

My dedicated comping email address is [EMAIL="comps@........net"]comps@........net[/EMAIL] and it has only recently dawned on me that if the admin person notifying winners came to the conclusion that the possible winner was a "serial comper" that they might choose another entrant.

I am well aware that this is more than likely to be the latest in a long line of compers paranoia when they (me) can't belive how little they win after all the hours spent inputting.

Please believe me when I say that I am just interested in your thoughts and am not complaining in any way, shape or form!

Any thoughts?

I also would say you should change it if you can.


Although loads of entries are picked by computer now, somewhere along the line there's a "Hooman Bean" inputting data and they really DO NOT like the serial Compers such as ourselves. They equate it with cheating for some reason! Wheras ACTUALLY, we Compers are good for their company, we spread the word far and wide and encourage interest in the Website / Product, which is the whole point of the Competition.

All sorted now then - created a new adress and had it redirected to the old one so that I can monitor both for a few months.

I'll update in a few months to let you know if I think it brought about a change in fortune.

I don't think so, i made an email with comp in the address i won quite alot of my big wins with that email, i since changed my email because i thought it was abit silly to have comp in my email address and now that i have changed it i'm having a big dry spell :mad::rotfl:

Sorry to laugh, but you sound just like me!! I am having a horrendous dry spell at the moment which is kind of a polar opposite to the amount of time and effort I'm putting in....I have also been coming up with increasingly paranoid ideas as to why I haven't won anything, from companies not liking the sound of my name, to thinking that I must have misspelled my email address in RoboForm ( I hadn't!).

I swear I've become more paranoid since I started comping... For example, I think EVERYTHING is a scam ("Too good to be true" / "No, not enough FB fans to afford to give that away" / "Scam!") and any comps I don't win, well, that must be because the comp runner doesn't like me :rotfl:

Well - I said I'd report back and update with any change of fortune.

No prizes at all since changing email addresses. So any doubts that I had and blame that I might attributed to the "comps@.....net" email address were unfounded.

I know that a lot of this is down to effort put in and a certain element of luck.

Quite clearly I need to double my efforts, not just change my email address !

I've also noticed a lot of fellow compers with 'comper' or "I enjoy entering competitions' in their Twitter bios - or their Facebook name as 'John MSE Smith" - perhaps I'm being a bit cynical but I'd advise against this as I very rarely see those accounts selected as winners (unless the comp is run fairly at random of course)

Just my opinion but I wouldn't want you wasting your time, so that my 2 pence worth! xx
